Layout and UI Design

Niall Murphy wrote an interesting article on embedded.com, discussing how the layout techniques employed by graphic designers can help developers build better user interfaces. While the article is targeted at embedded systems developers, it is also an interesting read for everyone else involved in user interface design. In my opinion, UI design should be left to specialists (and specialist does not necessarily mean graphic designer), but when no specialist is available, at least the developers doing the user interfaces should have some basic knowledge of design and layout techniques.

The Vacation is Over

Our wonderful vacation in Spain is (unfortunately) over now and we are back again in cold and rainy Austria. After a short not-so-nice experience in Alicante, where we intended to attend a language course (in short: the city is noisy), we changed our plans, had luck, and found a wonderful little hotel in L'Alfas del Pi, were we enjoyed two weeks of sea and sunshine.
Of course I have shot a few photos, and for your enjoyment, I have posted them to the web.

¡Hola!

Just in case anyone is wondering what I've been up to lately...
Well, I moved into a new "office" at Spain's mediterranean coast. For the sole purpose of making you envy, I will share my gorgeous view with you. That's what I call a room with a view!

Playa

(I have taken this picture with my T630, so the quality kinda sucks, but you get the idea...)
