Pay attention to "Get Rich Slow" and be patient ;-) Patience, alongside with listening to customers are the most important points - you can not exist without customers.

I think MySQL is more accepted OS DB than PostgreSQL because of the commercial background and marketing machine behind it. From my experience (playing/testing, one production PgSQL), PostgreSQL is technologically superior to MySQL (although the gap has been narrowed with latest MySQL versions).
